Our Love Story

The Love Story of Brother Paul and Sister Melit

On September 2, 2023, a celebration was held for the 29th Anniversary of Jesus Is Lord (JIL) La Union Church at the San Juan Gymnasium in La Union. It was on this occasion that Brother Paul and Sister Melit first met and got to know each other. Sister Melit had asked Brother Paul about the 50 pieces of colored brooms that were intended as gifts for the guests attending the celebration. However, Brother Paul did not bring the brooms to the San Juan Gymnasium. Instead, he left them at the JIL SFC Church because he thought the guests would be going there for dinner. Unexpectedly, the dinner venue was changed to Puerto de San Juan, which was why the brooms were not retrieved that evening. Sister Melit then questioned Brother Paul about why he had not brought the brooms. Brother Paul simply explained, “I just followed the instructions given to me.” However, Sister Melit continued to insist on the matter. Brother Paul eventually remarked that Sister Melit had become seemed to be nagging him. When Sister Melit learned that Brother Paul felt she had been harsh toward him, she approached him and apologized. Little did they know that this simple encounter would become the beginning of their love story. At that time, they were merely a brother and a sister in the faith who had just met and gotten acquainted. From then on, their friendship gradually grew. Their fellow church members and friends also began teasing them and encouraging their closeness. In 2024, 2025, and continuing into 2026, Sister Melit joined the group led by Pastora Elma on visits and outreach activities in Bagulin. Brother Paul had been assigned as the Municipal Coordinator of JIL Bagulin, which gave him and Sister Melit more opportunities to see each other and spend time together. Their friends continued to playfully tease and encourage them as they witnessed their growing closeness. What began as a simple misunderstanding over a set of brooms gradually blossomed into a meaningful friendship and, eventually, love. As time passed, their relationship continued to grow, and they came to realize that they wanted to spend their lives together. Finally, the time came when they decided to make a commitment to one another and prepare for marriage. And so, what began with an unexpected encounter on September 2, 2023, became a beautiful love story woven through friendship, faith, fellowship, and God's perfect timing.
