Prayer of a Pastor

Heavenly Father,

in my mind, in my heart, and in my soul

you know me from even before...

You have chosen me, anointed me,

and sent me for a special purpose

and mission.

I responded willingly

and wholeheartedly.

I made promises, and vowed

to be yours unconditionally.

My priesthood is all that I have.

I desired nothing more except

to keep me holy

and be effective

in my pastoral ministry.

I humbly accept my imperfections

because distractions abound

and temptations linger on.

But for whatever may come

—I lay my life for you.

Even if I am most unworthy

—I know I will never be worthless,

because of you...

May my words and actions

patterned after your Son—Jesus Christ

—the Good Shepherd...

Fill my soul with all the grace,

through the power of the Holy Spirit

—the Paraclete.

Teach me and guide me

—to consistently do your holy will,

through the intercession

of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Make my priestly life

—an offering of love,

always, now and forever.

Amen.
