Our Love Story

From High School Sweethearts to Forever

Our story began when we were just high school students—young, carefree, and completely unaware of where life would eventually take us.

We went to the same school. He was the “gangster” type, while I was the girl who was always serious about her studies—the matalino sa klase. Somehow, despite being so different, our paths crossed, and he started courting me.

But here’s the funny part: I rejected him. Not just once, but multiple times. 😂

He patiently tried for almost a year before, finally, on August 26, 2010, I said yes. That day became the beginning of a love story we never knew would last this long.

As we grew older, life brought us to different places. When college came, we went to separate schools. He pursued his studies at Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, while I studied Social Work at Iloilo Doctors’ College.

Even with different schools, different schedules, and different paths, we continued choosing each other.

We attended each other’s college graduations, celebrated each other’s achievements, and quietly stood beside one another through the years. Our relationship was not always easy—and for a time, it had to remain a secret from my father’s side of the family. We had to love quietly, laugh quietly, and keep our relationship between the two of us. Looking back now, we can’t help but laugh at those memories.

Then came October 17, 2017.

He left for Dubai to work and build a better future. I stayed in the Philippines. And just like that, our love story entered a new chapter—long distance.

There were countless days when all we had were phone calls, messages, video calls, and the hope that someday, the distance would finally end.

Years passed.

In 2022, he came home to the Philippines for a vacation. But after spending time together, he once again had to leave—this time to Canada, to pursue another dream and another chapter of his life.

And so, we continued.

Different countries. Different time zones. Different lives happening around us.

But somehow, through all those years, we never stopped finding our way back to each other.

Almost nine years of long distance.

Nine years of saying goodbye at airports.

Nine years of missing birthdays, ordinary days, celebrations, and simple moments that other couples often take for granted.

Nine years of waiting for the next vacation, the next call, the next chance to be together.

But love has a funny way of making time and distance feel worth it when you know who you're waiting for.

And after almost nine years of LDR, our relationship finally received the upgrade we had been waiting for.

From “See you soon” to “See you at home.”

Then came July.

He asked me to marry him, and at first, we thought our wedding would be in January 2027.

But apparently, he decided we had waited long enough. 😂

In August, he told me, “Change it. Let’s get married on October 2.”

And just like that, the date changed.

October 2, 2026.

Not January 2027.

Not someday.

Not when the distance finally becomes easier.

But now.

After all the years of waiting, we are finally choosing forever.

From two high school kids who started with a “no,” to two adults who survived different schools, different countries, countless goodbyes, and almost nine years of long distance—we made it here.

We have grown, changed, struggled, dreamed, and built our lives along the way. And through every version of ourselves, we somehow kept choosing the same person.

What started on August 26, 2010 as a simple “yes” became years of memories, challenges, distance, patience, and love.

And now, after all those years, we get to say the words we have been waiting for:

No more thousand miles between us.

No more counting the days until the next visit.

No more goodbyes at the airport.

This time, when we say goodbye, it will only be for a little while.

Because after sixteen years of knowing each other, loving each other, growing together, and waiting for the right time—

We are finally coming home to each other.

And this time, it's forever.
